Chrome extension: Something went wrong on the server

This error occurs when our server is unable to process your request. It usually means the image you’re trying to analyze cannot be accessed or processed for some reason.

Importantly: you are not charged any credits when this error occurs.

Possible causes

  • The image is hosted on a private network (e.g. behind a login or firewall).
  • The image is not publicly accessible from the internet.
  • The website uses bot protection that blocks external requests.
  • The image is in an unsupported format.
  • A temporary issue occurred between the extension and our API.

How to fix it

Follow these steps to get your API key and add it to the extension:

  1. Make sure the image is publicly accessible
Try opening the image URL in a private/incognito window or from a different network. If the image doesn’t load, our servers likely can’t access it either.
  2. Check if the website uses bot protection
Some websites restrict external access to their content. This may include:
    - Login or session-based content
    - Captcha or anti-bot services
    - Content delivery rules blocking unknown referrers
  3. Try a different image or website
To isolate the issue, try generating alt text for an image on a different site (e.g. Unsplash). If it works there, the problem is likely specific to the original site or image.
  4. Wait and try again later
Occasionally, temporary issues (like server overload or connection problems) can trigger this error. Retrying after a few minutes may help.
